Within each and every
one of us, lies a strength so powerful that it can change our lives as
we know them today. A
force
so strong and ever-present, and yet so very gentle and simple in every
aspect. By learning to tap
into this hidden asset you possess – your powerful mind – you may
open the door to your possibilities.
Hypnosis is a way to
communicate your desires to your subconscious mind, and it has been
practiced for thousands of years.
Although the technique and understanding of what was taking
place varied, hypnotism can be found everywhere from the
rituals of today's primitive people, to the ancient Egyptians and
Romans.
Hypnosis is a
naturally induced state of relaxed, focused concentration; a state of
mind in which beneficial suggestions are communicated to the
subconscious mind.
New thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can then be formed to
help create a new reality. Every
time a belief is repeated it is reinforced (through a form of
self-hypnosis)… once inner dialogue is
changed to something more beneficial, the result is positive
occurrences in one's life.
Since all hypnosis is
really self-hypnosis, you may take an active role in shaping your
medical and mental health.

The POWER of
Positive
Thinking
Why is it that people
who expect bad things to happen, are often disappointed when those
same things they feared have come true?
How
many times have you heard someone say, or even said to yourself:
-
“I could never do that.”
-
“I can’t lose weight.”
-
“I won’t live to an old age.”
-
“I can’t quit smoking.”
-
“I’ll never have any real money.”
-
“I’m catching a cold.”
-
“I can’t remember anything anymore.”
Your subconscious mind
can be your greatest helper, or your heaviest burden.
It is the part of your mind that influences what you think, how
you feel, the choices you make, and ultimately, the life you lead.
Your subconscious mind accepts whatever information it
receives. Whether or not
this information is beneficial to you does not matter, because it is
simply accepted as your reality. So
you are reinforcing your beliefs, both positive and negative, every
time you repeat them. And
since your subconscious mind cannot accept two opposing viewpoints,
when faced with this situation, it will always side with the stronger
side, no matter what.
Henry
Ford wisely once said, "If you think you can, you can.
If you think you can't, you can't."
Truer words have never been spoken, and this clearly
demonstrates the mind-body connection.
Unfortunately, people reinforce their limiting beliefs every
time they repeat them (again, this is a form of self-hypnosis).
But what happens when the mind is utilized effectively to
produce a positive outcome?
The origin of all
behavior comes from a thought or feeling.
The belief you have regarding this thought/feeling creates your
attitude, which in turn is displayed through your behavior, and you
are then either satisfied or dissatisfied with the outcome.

→ Belief → Attitude = Happy

You’ve ALREADY
Experienced Hypnosis!
You may be surprised by
just how often you enter the trance state during your daily life.
Since hypnosis is a natural process, you move in and out of focused
concentration (hypnosis) quite often. Sometimes when we see something
visually or hear a story, we are more able to grasp a concept. The
following is provided to offer a better understanding of what hypnosis
is, and show you just how frequently you enter this state without even
realizing it! I’m sure you’ve even experienced this one…
Recall a time when you were driving home and were deep in thought
and/or daydreaming. As you
pull into your driveway, you realize that you don’t remember driving
home... but somehow, you got yourself there.
Or maybe it was that the instant you passed your exit on the
highway, you realized that you hadn't been paying attention to
driving. Sound familiar?
So what happened?
While your mind was involved elsewhere in these thoughts, your
subconscious mind had assumed control and taken over driving.
A simple shift in concentration had occurred.
However, if an emergency requiring your attention suddenly
arose, you would have responded immediately (just as it did as soon as
you passed your exit). In the case of driving home without remembering
it, nothing happened that was important enough to break your train of
thought, so your subconscious mind drove you safely home.
It is just that easy!
Begin to consciously turn over more of your patterns to your
subconscious mind. Utilize your subconscious… your powerful mind…
to create permanent and lasting changes in your life!
"We
are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence
then is not an act,
but a habit."

Common Myths
& Questions Revealed

Will
I enter a strange twilight zone?
Absolutely
not. Hypnosis is very
natural, focused state of concentration.
It follows the same path you experience every night when falling
asleep, except you do not enter sleep, so there is nothing to fear.
Some people remember everything that occurs during hypnotic
trance,
while others remember only bits and pieces… both are completely
normal.
What
does hypnosis feel like?
The
experience of hypnosis is different for everyone.
When in hypnosis, your mind becomes hypersensitive to your
surroundings, but unless something in your environment requires your
immediate attention, you remain content and focused inward, and allow your surroundings fade into the background.
Some people experience a lightness or a heaviness in their body;
some people experience things clearly in their mind, while others have
only a sense or impression of an image.
Once again, it is different for everyone, but everyone has
already experienced hypnosis (you just didn’t call it that)!
As an example, recall a time when you experienced a stressful
day. You came home, put on
some music, relaxed on your bed while deep in thought, and when you opened
your eyes you realized that a half hour had passed when it only seemed
like five minutes. What you
had experienced was time distortion – a common characteristic of
hypnosis. This occurs
because the flow of information that occurs in hypnosis happens in the
part of the brain that does not keep track of time.
How
will I know if it’s working?
It’s
difficult to determine just how deep in trance you actually are, so
the key is to just go along with it, and avoid analyzing the process.
To do so will prohibit you from allowing yourself to enter the
state of hypnosis. If you
are experiencing a session in person, the hypnotist will most likely
perform various depth tests to gauge your progress (such as suggesting
that you cannot open your eyes or lower your arm, or that you
temporarily forget the letters of the alphabet).
But most of all, you will know how successful you were by the
results you experience.
Can
I get stuck in hypnosis?
Since
the process is completely normal and natural, it is impossible to become
stuck in hypnosis. If you
were hypnotized and the hypnotist left the room, one of two things would
happen: 1) after a period of
time, you would realize that the hypnotist has stopped talking, and you
would return to the awake/alert state; or 2) you would enter the sleep
state and from there wake up naturally as you do every morning.
You cannot remain in hypnosis indefinitely.
Will
I be under the hypnotist’s control?
Always
remember that ALL hypnosis is really self-hypnosis.
The hypnotist is simply your teacher or guide in helping you to
achieve your own self-hypnosis. You
will always have the option to stop the relaxation and hypnosis, or to
open your eyes. Remember
that YOU are in always in control. You
cannot be made to do things against your will, and you’ll always stay
true to your morals, ethics, and values.
The hypnotist is merely there to help you through the process to
achieve your goals.
Will
I share things I don’t want revealed?
No.
Once again, you are always in control so if you do not wish to
share something, you cannot be made to do so.

Biology
of Hypnosis
If hypnosis is real, it must be possible to explain the mechanism of
trance and suggestion in terms of real events that happen in the body.
No powerful experience can occur in the mind without some measurable
influence on the body. (I hope you're ready… here comes the
nitty-gritty details of what is physically happening in your body during
hypnosis!).
On average, any given nerve cell in the human
brain interconnects with 5,000 other nerve cells.
The number of possible interconnections between the nerve cells
in the human body is huge, but finite.
Your body's way to simplify this process is to "kindle"
the nerve cells. Nerves
frequently used (thoughts, feelings, behavior) have a slightly positive
charge. With repetition, the
nerve path becomes kindled, or programmed, and your body begins to
respond automatically. Habits
are formed when the subconscious part of the mind takes control of your
thoughts, feelings, and behavior, and you no longer have to consciously
think about how to react to something.
In the hypnotic trance, a change occurs in the structure of your brain
that links the two halves of the brain. This change causes more
information to flow from one side of your brain to the other than would
normally be the case. During this time, nerve cells in the part of your
brain that control habits lose some of their electrical charge, and your
mind becomes more subject to change. Using imagery and suggestion, new
connections among the nerve cells can be formed (kindled). Are you still
with me? There’s just a bit more!
There are four different states of brainwave activity; all are measured
in Hertz (HZ), a unit of frequency equal to once cycle per second.
graphic
*
Beta
is experienced throughout the day when you are awake and alert
(13-30 HZ).
*
Alpha
is experienced when you are relaxed (8-12 HZ). The majority of all
hypnosis takes place here.
*
Theta
is experienced when you are daydreaming, have good imagery and
reverie, or are at near sleep (3-7 HZ). Medical and dental
procedures including some surgeries can take place without the use
of anesthetic at this depth in hypnosis.
*
Delta
is actual sleep (0.5-2 HZ).
Hypnosis follows the same brainwave pattern that you go through every
night when you are falling asleep. Unfortunately when British doctor
James Braid coined the term "hypnosis" in 1842, its Greek
meaning of "sleep" confused many people into believing
hypnosis is the same as sleep. Although sleep and hypnosis are parallel,
the moment the sleep state is entered hypnosis has ended.
Avoid
analyzing the process or trying to determine how deep in hypnosis you
are because you simply won’t be able to tell. You can be assured,
however, that the results you will receive will indicate your success in
hypnosis!
