Steps
to Self-Hypnosis
By
learning and incorporating self-hypnosis into your life, you are
giving yourself a wonderful gift. Self-hypnosis can and
should be used in all aspects of your life for your personal
challenges and improvements, and you will discover the guidance of
your own inner wisdom!
The importance of imagination cannot be underestimated. Even Einstein
understood this concept when he said, "Imagination is more
important than intellect." Through self-hypnosis, you will work
on imagining your goals… but make sure they are realistic, not
impossible. And if you have a very dramatic or life-changing goal, see
yourself succeeding through small goals until you ultimately achieve
your end-result goal. If you find you have a difficult time
visualizing, don't worry… just imagine or pretend you can see your
goals… the same purpose is served. With that said, let's move
forward to learning the three simple steps of self-hypnosis.
Begin
by placing your thumb and index finger together.
This acts as a trigger to your mind and body that you are beginning
your hypnosis. As you move thorough your self-hypnosis, your fingers may
naturally separate as your mind and body relax.
Simply allow this to happen… It is only necessary to place
them together when you initiate your self-hypnosis.
Take a deep breath and hold it.
Roll your eyes up as if you were trying to look at the top of
your head. Your eyes may
begin to flutter. Now keeping your eyes up, slowly close your eyelids.
Exhale and relax your eyes, relax your body.
You will feel a wave of relaxation flow over you.
It is possible to fight it, but that defeats the purpose.
Focus inward. Allow your eyes to remain closed, and imagine
you are in front of a staircase (or in an elevator).
Notice that there are 25 steps (or floors).
With each slow step you take, you will move more deeply and
easily into hypnosis. As
you move upon the stairs, silently repeat phrases to yourself such as,
“going down into deeper relaxation, going down, down, letting go,”
and so on. At the base of
the stairs is a large, cushy, allergy-free, feather bed.
On the last stair, you will simply sink into that bed, resting
your head the comfortable pillow. (If you are using the
elevator, the doors can open to your favorite place in nature).
As you are deeply relaxing in the cushy bed, initially start
out by giving yourself the following suggestion:
“Every day, in every way, I’m getting better and better.”
Repeat this suggestion at least 10 times. If you would rather create your own specific self-hypnosis
suggestions, keep in mind the six key elements all suggestions must
contain in order to be effective.
They must be positive, present tense, measurable, simple,
believable, and carry a reward. Make sure to develop your own suggestions while in the awake
state to ensure all six elements are included. After
giving yourself the self-hypnosis suggestions, you may slowly count
yourself up from 1 to 5 to the awake state, or you may choose to
fall asleep if you are practicing your self-hypnosis at night.
You now have all the tools necessary to begin incorporating
self-hypnosis into your life, so that you may bring your best self
forward and shape your future.
